Activision threatens to stop supporting Sony consoles
Activision Blizzard is the largest third-party publisher in the world with games like Call of Duty, Guitar Hero and Tony Hawk. Now their CEO, Bobby Kotick, is threatening to cease all support for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Portable. Why?
Speaking to The Times, Kotick said "I'm getting concerned about Sony;
the PlayStation 3 is losing a bit of momentum and they don't make it
easy for me to support the platform. It's expensive to develop for the
console, and the Wii and the Xbox are just selling better. Games
generate a better return on invested capital on the Xbox than on the
PlayStation".
"They have to cut the price, because if they don't, the attach rates
are likely to slow", he continues. "If we are being realistic, we might
have to stop supporting Sony...When we look at 2010 and 2011, we might
want to consider if we support the console - and the PSP [portable] too"
It's unlikely that they would truly cut support for the two consoles, so what are the threats meant to accomplish?

Yeah this would suck if it happened. Hopefully, it'll push Sony towards a price drop.

A price drop has to equate to game sales though. If people just buy it for a Blu-Ray player it doesn't help Activision out.
Who knows what Sony is doing any more? I think with all the cuts and everything they've gone through, it's a miracle that the PS3 survived since it lost billions for the company during a time when they couldn't afford it.

man... i like my psp and i'm looking forward to eventually getting a ps3. i really hope they figure things out with the console prices soon.
its currently $159.99 to buy a PSP off the shelf in the states, they should cut it by $40 to be at least equal to the DS Lite's price. they should bundle a damn sony memory card in with each, make it the cheapest ones: 512/256/whatever. a first party game (even a shitty one) should be included.
i'd hate to see the PSP die off even more than it has. there is a serious software glut for the PSP and piracy is really killing it.

The PSP 3000 is $170 in the states. For $200 you get a game and a memory stick.

Why hasn't Sony released its Playstation Network credit card to Canada yet. Like every other country has it, why not the good ol'Canucks. This would help Sony.
A little.
