Hoyle Card Games 2009

With all of the free options out there that allow you to play card games is Hoyle Card Games worth paying for? That’s the question I try to answer in this review.
Much like Hoyle Casino, when you start this game, you will be asked to create an account. You can then modify the look of your player, earn trophies and unlock more faces and statues to add to the look of your avatar. If you already own Casino, you can import your player and his stats into this game and vise versa. After you have created a character, you will be given the option to play competitive games, team games and solo games.
In competitive games you play against everyone else or against the table. You have games such as Blackjack, Poker Hearts and more. In team games you and another person, or PC controlled player, play against two other opponents; solo games you play by yourself such as Solitaire and Video poker.
A lot of the card games are exact copies from Casino, such as Blackjack and poker from the table to the dealer’s voice. While games like Hearts and Spades put you in a living room setting and you play at a coffee table. The problem with a lot of these games is the view of the cards, I noticed while playing games the cards were too small and sometimes hard to see.
Again, as in Hoyle Casino, people make comments throughout the game according to how good or bad they are playing. I’ve found I prefer turning this setting off. The menus are simple to navigate and the graphics are good enough for what they do. Even though you can log into the online server to play other people, there is no one with whom to play. I tried several times to find someone to play against and I could not find anyone.
I’ve found using this game as a tutorial is the best way to use it. It even comes with an official rule book. This is something the free online versions of these games do not offer. I was able to teach myself spades, canasta and Pinochle and it was not boring. The computer opponents seem intelligent. They do not make stupid mistakes and it really forces you to think about what you are doing as you play.
Also, this game has different variations of a lot of games. I never knew how many different versions of Poker and Blackjack were actually out there.
If you are looking to teach yourself card games or are looking to improve your game, Hoyle card games has a lot to offer. Even though you can play a lot of these games free online, you usually don’t get challenged the way this game challenges you. I had a lot of fun with this game and can see myself playing in the future. For everything this game has, along with its $19.99 price tag, I highly recommend this game.
8 out of 10

A real disappointment. The cards are hard to manipulate, and hard to see them when they are in the hand. It's hard to see what the other players have in their hands and it does not show you scores during play. Canasta is the biggest disappointment. I can not get the cards in the right meld spots, you can not move cards by double clicking and it does not show you scores as you play. I really miss my 2008 version

Whome ever put thisb video computer game together has not played Pinochle with live human beings. First your partner will not draw out all of his partners thrump. And 86% of the time other players have tremendoes meld. Working for a major computer company i know this game can be programed to know every card that an oppisite player has. Make the game more realistic please ?
