So I buy F.E.A.R. 2 on disc. It uses Steam. I enter the serial code for the game. And it tells me the game is permanently assigned to my Steam account. So does that mean I can't give the game away? When I finish it, I just throw it in the trash?
What the fuck? If that's true, I'm going to never buy a Steam game again brand new in the box. I'll just wait for the games to be $10 on Steam and download it. The gaming industry deserves to lose money when they do lame-ass shit like this. When I buy a game for $50 I factor in that I can later give it away to someone who wouldn't have bought it anyway. Now I can't do that. Unreal...

From my experience, pretty much. As far as I know, if you buy a game that uses Steam (be it download or disc), you can't sell it. One of the big things that us "Fuck Digitial Download" people think is bullshit.

Yeah, giving you the physical copy you can't trade, sell, or give away just seems to twist the knife.

isn't DRM great guys? its prevented kevin from stealing the game and potentially causing 1.2bln in damages to the industry, thank goodness this Enhancing feature is around or no one would ever bother to make video games with thieves like kevin baird around

When you buy something you are purchasing the right to sell it or give it away, that may be illegal what they did, I think you should see a lawyer about that.

Everyone always tries to shush me when I say Steam is gay. Occasionally, stuff like this pops up and I am finally vindicated.
DLC for the fail.

What if they charged something like an extra $5 that would allow you to give away or sell the game later? Might be extra gay, but I can see them doing that.

I use Steam for a few things, but prefer owning the media.

I like DLC.
I hate discs because they clutter my desk, which is already cluttered, and the process of owning one usually goes; buy game, install, brake jewel case, scratch disk to shit, wish I could have a no cd crack.
I personally think Steam is badass, because they store all my purchases, so if my computer barfs, or if I get robbed, or the house burns down, I just reinstall Steam on another computer, download games and there you go. And they have friggin awesome deals.
But Steam should let people download and borrow your game (maybe up to 5 users) and just allow the game to play on one machine at a time (which it already does, technically). Could revolutionize DLC in a lot of ways. Too many times I want my brother in law to witness the awesomeness of TF2 on the PC, but can't.

Yeah it's in the Eula, I don't think it's printed on the box though...that would be one hell of a box for most Eula's.
Peace
