I moved in with Mom on Saturday.  So far so good.  Cleaning out her poop bucket is the fucking worst and I want to gag whenever I pour it down the toilet.  Gross.  I hope she doesn't start shitting her pants because I'm going to have to hire someone then.  No way can I clean that shit up.  Nasty.

Larry is watching her a couple days a week while I go into the office.  Brian will watch her on Fridays.  And I'll work from home the other days.

Right now, my Mom isn't much of a hassle at all except for the constant asks for help which always come once I've sat down.  "Can you get this for me?"  "Do you know where this is?"   "I want to show you something."  Ugh...  But that's part of the job so I'm just taking it in stride.

The dogs are a pain in the fucking ass.  The MAIN reasons is because my Aunt taught the dogs that she gets up at 6:30am to feed them.  So first thing at 6:30 they are licking me to get up.  Jesus!  The first night was impossible to sleep because they kick around and make noise.  So last night I closed the door to the room (I figure my Mom can scream really loud if she needs me.) and I used a sound masker on my phone that made a fan noise.  That worked well.  At 4am I put them out while I went to the bathroom.  And then at 7am I put them out and fed them at 8.  That worked well.  If I can get them to just do 4 and 8, I'll be set.  I'm sure that'll happen.  Though with Daylight Savings around the corner, I'm bound to screw their minds up again soon.

Mom is hopeful that she'll live until she's 70.  She is 68 and won't turn 69 until July.  It's very doubtful that she would live that long.  Originally the doctors gave her three weeks.  It's been about two months, and outside of the lower spine issues giving her pain when she walks, and some poor immediate memory, she is fine.  I honestly thought she'd progress quicker than this myself, but from what I've read when the decay happens it is pretty rapid, the rest of the time you wait.

Her attitude is fine.  I keep her focused on each day.  She is cooking and talking with friends and today they are taking her out to lunch.  (A couple of nurses, so they will take her wheelchair, etc.)  I may try to get her to go to Costco, as she wants to go there.

It is basically a waiting game at this point.  We're taking it one day at a time.  My next step is to contact the Funeral Home to make plans.  I intend to call them this week.  As well as a Handyman to fix this closet door she talks endlessly about.  It has a broken track.  Zzz...

You seem to have everything under control, which is good considering the circumstances.

Cleaning shit is a very touchy subject. It is disgusting and I don't think i'll be able to bring myself to do it. Tried with my nephew (2-year old) once and it was not good. I was "lucky" so far since those who died in my family died quickly so there was no "shit duty". But if I had to do it to my parents I would be conflicted. On one hand it is disgusting, but on the other they are my parents and they did it to me when i was a kid and would do it later if necessary i'm sure

Cancer Update for 05/18/2013

We're at the end of the line.  She's not expected to make it past the weekend at this rate.  Her decline from semi-alert but confused, to completely out of it was rapid.   She can still eat and drink but no longer has any conversation and does not really know much else about what is happening. Though she is generally comfortable when on medication and continues to breath normally.  At this point, I'm waiting for "labored breathing" which is apparently what is the last stage of this.  When…See More

Raspberry Pi

I bought a Raspberry Pi today.  Primarily to use it as the mining computer for my ASIC rigs.  I had a temptation to get a netbook and use that, since the interface would be more open ended running Windows and everything.  But the Raspberry Pi is "neat" and it only runs on 1.5watts to 3watts.  Which is ridiculous.  In order to get maximum ROI the wattage needs to be low.  Hopefully doesn't turn into a nightmare to get up and working.  Though there are many straight forward examples.  I'm not new…See More

Cancer Update for 05/08/2013

So, after coming home from work on Tuesday, Mom was laying flat resting and they had installed the catheter.  While this relieved a lot of the stomach pain she was having (Most pain, unless she moved around and then got shots of back pain.) she appeared very much lethargic and tired.Since then, she's been unable to eat and drink on her own.  I have to give her one pill at a time, and feed her, but she doesn't eat much.  I believe this is because she has to concentrate to swallow, and that is…See More

How’s the computer programming field coming along?

A blog post I just read, published back in 2007, about the field of computer programming expressed several traits of irritation that I had previously heard Kevin voice on the podcast. Some of the members on this forum are in the programming field, I think; is the typical job as arduous and unromantic as this blogger depicted the profession six years ago? He describes the knowledge decay unique to this field, along with its low degree of prestige and high susceptibility to “foreignization”. The…See More

Cancer Update 05/06/2013

Well, this weekend I changed my first diaper.  Except instead of a little baby, I have a 150 pound woman who is in pain as I try to move her around.  She didn't eat almost anything the last twenty four hours.  She complains of stomach pain, however I'm almost certain this is because she is not going pee.  I don't know why she is resistant to peeing in the diaper, as I've told her time and again that she should pee in the diaper.  She wants to get up and sit on the poo poo pot.  Brian, on…See More

Cancer Update 05/02/2012

Brian is only here for one day, which is Friday.  He is not good in situations like this, but he does the best he can.  Though he practically ran out of here last Saturday, left his food behind.  It's difficult to deal with when someone is in a lot of pain and requires a lot of care.I try to stay focused on one day at a time.  I've basically been imprisoned in my Mom's house now for about two months.  I figure she has less than a month left.  That is very difficult to say, but her mental…See More
